Dresden
On November 11-14, 2016, the synod assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony was held. This assembly marked a special anniversary – exactly 50 years ago, in 1966, the first woman was ordained in Saxony. On November 13 in the Church of the Three Wise Men there was a special worship service, led by women pastors, to mark this anniversary; the sermon was given by the bishop of the Saxon church Carsten Rentzing and his spouse Maria Rentzing.
ELCER pastors Tatyana Zhivodyorova (Tolyatti) and Ivan Shirokov (Yaroslavl) were guests at this synod assembly; the two churches have been in an official partner relationship since 2014.
A significant event came at the end of this time - a conference of women pastors, held on November 14th. Guests from Poland, the Czech Republic and Brazil were in attendance as well. A documentary film about the first women pastors was shown and papers were given about female ministers and their achievements throughout the world.
